Dear MSMA Member:
MSMA Diversified Services, Inc. is offering a new service to members of the Mississippi State
Medical Association: a revolutionary new “non-sufficient funds” (NSF) check collection process
that will lower your collection costs, improve your collection rate, and provide faster deposits to
your bank on NSF checks.
This new NSF collection process utilizes electronic check processing which was authorized in
1998 so that checks which are returned due to insufficient funds can be collected through the
national Automated Clearing House Network, which allows financial institutions to exchange
payments on behalf of customers and consumers. Federated Automated Recovery Systems,
Inc. (FARS) is a national leader in electronic bad check recovery which processes thousands
of transactions for large and small businesses throughout the U.S.
What does this service mean to your practice? FARS collects 100% of the face amount of
checks returned for non-sufficient funds and returns the entire amount to you, plus any fees
charged by the bank for processing the transaction. According to FARS, it recovers 75% of
the NSF checks within 5-7 days and virtually all of the remaining 25% within 30 days.
Electronic NSF check collection is free, but unlike its competitors, FARS collects not only the
face amount of the check but also the bank fees normally charged to the merchant. The only
cost to you is a one-time account set-up fee. This fee is normally $99, but for MSMA members
who enroll within the next 120 days the fee is being discounted to $49.
We believe this new service has the capability of saving you time and money, and you do not
have to sign a contract in order to participate. Should you have any questions or would like
more information we urge you to contact the area FARS representative, Mr. Don Herman, at
(800) 543-3153, ext. 12.
Sincerely,
William F. Roberts
